Social Media and The General Election

Social Media and The General Election – Will it Influence Who Wins?

This is why I love social media, this is why I tell people to USE SOCIAL MEDIA when setting up a new business and when trying to build their brands.

With social media being an absolute must in everyones personal and professional lives, it would make sense for the giants of social media Facebook, Twitter, Youtube amongst many others, to be at the forefront of all high profile digital conversation.

Social Media and The General Election

The general election will literally be decided on the heavy influence of the content, messages, videos and conversations on social media and the parties are using them to get the point across. Ed Miliband today has recorded a Vine clip which has rocked the Vine world – a 6 second broadcast which has been played around 600,000 times!

As you may or may not be aware political advertising is actually banned, but when it comes up to the general election, parties can pay social media platforms to advertise their messages. These messages will be targeted at millions of voters to encourage them to vote for them. The wonderful thing about this is that these campaigns that are going online aren’t regulated by bodies; such as OfCom or the Advertising Standard Agency. Which is excellent for the party who wants to get out their own personal message, but also you could be in the firing line of your opponent.

Using social media as well can offer a clear indication who might be ahead of winning the populations votes, with re-shares and likes, plus 1s and re-tweets to analyse, there is also the access to positive and negative comments which can determine whether a party is coming out with the right message or whether the public aren’t particularly fond of their offerings. This also gives each individual party some time to react to any negative feedback positively and constructively, swaying voters to change at the very last minute.

We shall see and will be keeping an eye of this as it unfolds…..
